New paintchat. I am posting this up because wao is sleeping at the moment. But since I wasn't there for most of it, I have very little to say about this paint chat. But as they always say, a picture is worth a thousand words... So.

So. I figured that since it's Chinese New Year weekend and episode 19 was going to be nice (which it was!), why not have a paintchat session since we could all afford to stay up late? :D So we did, one lasting a few hours. The participants were...

At first it was just me and mr, then hana joined in for some whacko fun, and later Ori and finally Celes joined in too. \o
*cough* There wasn't a theme in particular, but it ENDED UP BEING... "hay lets TOTALLY RUIN THE CHARACTERS' IMAGES!!11" You will see why.

This was right at the beginning with just me and mr. There was actually a lot more crap before this, but you cannot see it muahahaha. ;D

hana had just joined us and we were all wondering what to draw. I mentioned I doodled Sensei as a school teacher earlier and then hana brilliantly mentioned that she had images of him spanking people.
From then on it was all downhill. 8D;;; zomg. *runs and hides again*
You'll get the joke of the lines if you've watched episode 18. And exactly why Benimaru is so flabbergasted if you've seen 19.
...I still can't believe we drew this O_O.

(01 Feb 07) Would you look at that, I was bored in class again. I had to sort of hide this while doing it so it's rather テキトー but... whatever.

I don't like it a lot anyway, his nose is too long and the lips are funny and his shoulders/collar are waaaay too stiff. Again. As usual. By the way, the actual size of the drawing is what you'd see in this image. And I tweaked this around in Photoshop until the colours were as close to the actual colours on the paper! :{

Paint chat between Wao and I on January 27, 2007.

Wao was doing something else, so I did the green doodle. Obviously influenced by episode 16. Wao later added the grey stuff.

Wao started doodling that handsome Akizuki in a suit there while I tried to think of something to draw. She then tried to draw Kakunojou but failed -- the result is that crossbreed of Kakunojou and Akizuki. ~~Can it be their love child?!~~

Anyway... I later started drawing that older Kakunojou on the right and Wao did the other Akizuki and also the other Kakunojou.

I had a sudden strong desire to draw Akizuki and Kakunojou kissing, but as you can see they ended up just hugging because I can't draw ppl kissing for the life of me.

The picture depicts Akizuki and Kakunojou meeting a year or so after going their separate way at my imagined ending of the show... in foreign land.

Wao did this very beautiful picture. Apparently Kakunojou is going into darkness and Akizuki is trying to stop her.

I was going to stay up and do another picture. I really wanted to, but I fell asleep while I rebooted my computer. =(

20th January 07. I still haven't done any work. But what the heck - paintchat session banzai! (This is going to kill me.)

...This session was organised by midnightreverie, who was bored and waiting for the raw to come out (waiting for raw seems to be the biggest reason for people to have paintchats here it seems >_>)

So first it was just me and midnightreverie...

...and this resulted. Uh. I think the person from the left is from another anime (The Third). And do not ask what is up with the visors. Really. I don't know either.

After this pearljamz joined, and we just doodled a bit for fun while deciding on a theme thing to draw... and we decided on drawing everyone 10 years later.

And there you have it. midnightreverie unfortunately couldn't finish her young Soutetsu on the left because she had to leave, but pearljamz drew the cute Akizuki in the middle while I drew Kanna and Kakunojou.

Finally...

I drew this after telling pearljamz of the l33tness of episode 10. And how impossibly hawt Akizuki is in it.

After this she had to go to sleep so... that was about it.

Just a perfunctory paintchat between me and Ori on the 13th of January 07 after watching episode 14. I sort of spoiled it because I kept telling her to wait since I was occupied with other things (including posting a ton of screencaps). But well, whatever. Here you go.

Personally I don't like him as much as Ori does but I must agree that that bit where he's spinning that dagger and then goes "Haro~" is so damned funny that... well... it's just hilarious.

Wouldn't that outfit of hers be a little bulky if she had to defend herself? Hm. Sorry Kaku-chan looks very bimbotic.... again.

So we just decided to draw Aki/Kaku. Yay. (Don't ask me why I drew the bottom right, I actually wanted to erase it but I thought it was kind of cute so I left it there and coloured it at the end.)
I would so die of fangirl spasms if there's anything in the show like what Ori drew on the left. Totally.

12th Jan 2007 - The first somewhat mass paintchat session held in the English Iroha fandom! Organised by midnightreverie, we had a final total of 5 participants:
midnightreverie | debbinya | sopoliini | me (wao) | ori (very last bit)

Of course it was totally different from the usual Japanese paintchat format where they have individual boxes and stuff. We just randomly drew stuff. For a long time it was mostly me, debbinya and sopoliini because midnightreverie was busy with stuff. (But she did throw in the odd doodle here and there.) Right at the end ori joined in as well, while waiting for the ep 14 raw.

Without further ado... in chronological order - witness our most shameless fangirling and random crack! This, my friends, is what we are made up of. So there. \o/

Oh - one last thing, actually there was a LOT of other fun and crack in between, ~~but it all got erased before anyone took a screenshot, so all you see is the last pictures before the canvas got cleared.~~ and some of it got saved thanks to midnightreverie's smart snapping skillz! (onomatopoeia for teh win!)

Well, someone said draw crack, and crack we have.

Mostly me and debbinya - this was before sopoliini joined.

Then there was.. um... this! I always told you Soutetsu was good at cooking. Magic stew!

And finally, this. Er, by this time the raw was out, and Ori did the smiley Akizuki up there. sopoliini did Kanna on the left (she really likes Kanna eh) and debbinya did Soutetsu. Meanwhile I was being all emo in a corner because the torrent was refusing to work for me (and it still refuses to...). So there you go, Akizuki-sama helped me stab it (to no avail) and Kanna is trying to be vaguely cute to make up for it.Yup.

(11 Jan 07) Another silly thing done at the 本家. You know, a lot of people take drawing there very seriously... I get the feeling I'm being inappropriately flippant with my doodles. And insensitive. So what's new?

This comes from a short part in episode 12. Akizuki looks like he's cutting a seagull out of angst (!) :( Don't cut seagulls, Akizuki! You should not take after Okita's tendency to abuse animals (people who try to kill cats are never, ever good!)

By the way if you've been wondering what 本家 is I'm referring to the oekakibbs.com boards.

The creepy thing about this picture is that I drew this right after episode 10 came out. That's right. Episode 10, not episode 13, it's like I knew Ebisu would die even then (or maybe that was wishful thinking that came true).

Truth to be told, I am extremely happy that Ebisu died. Actually, who am I kidding, I am ecstatic about his death. Seeing him die in episode 13 is something beyond my wildest dream. I would have been perfectly satisfied even if he doesn't die untl episode 18, that was as early as I dared to hope for. But no, Iroha proves its greatness to me again and again and actually killed him off 5 episodes earlier than my dream! The sadistic fangirl in me is grinning like mad.

Now we can move on and focus more on characters I actually care about like Kakunojou, Akizuki, Soutetsu and Kanna. YES!

Yay! This was a paintchat between wao and midnightreverie, another huge Iroha fan - the owner of the Iroha and Akizuki fanlistings, and the moderator of the Iroha Livejournal community.

My foreshortening looks off and there's a lot of problems, but I didn't - and can't - spend the same amount of time that I used to on a single picture any more. Dude, I haven't done *ANY* homework at *ALL* today. Terrible.

Oh, but *gasp* Akizuki looks... somewhat... Akizuki-ish! Egads!!!!!!11one Oh. And IMPORTANT NOTE: Kanna's outfit is very vaguely based off the by-now infamous getup he's in in the episode 14 preview. FFS, he is REALLY WEARING A RED COAT. And I keep hearing he's wearing a sailor collar or something. But the frills are still there. Huh?!! I have to see it for myself.

(And this is not even the only paintchat session I indulged in without doing schoolwork; on the 3rd/4th I took part in an excellent Aki/Kaku one at 舞夜's website, ユヅキ :D)

Once again, I have to remind you that we draw all of this on msn (just in case you forgot how insane we are).

We drew all of this in December, about a week after we saw episode 9, I think.

The text I put underneath each picture is from the actual convo.

It would be funny if Aki asks Kanna, "Why the hack are you trying to fight me anyway?!" and Kanna says, "You should know the answer." "No I don't." "grrrrrrrr Damn you Akizuki!"

It must be hard for Kanna to see that while Akizuki has what he wants Akizuki doesn't care about it at all.
Kanna must be thinking, " I lost to this..."

And the funny thing is, it seems no matter what Kanna does, Kaku still thinks Akizuki saved her O.o

We are so crazy that we draw straight on msn sometimes.

I didn't discover the save function on msn ink till pretty late, so I only managed to salvage two doodles from the this session we did back in October, a couple of weeks after I first got into Iroha and right before Wao got a new tablet.

This is one of my first attempts in drawing Akizuki, I think.

As you can see from this doodle, Wao was really angry at her tablet.

Wao and I actually did this paint chat session last week right after I watched Iroha ep 13 after I woke up at 3am in the morning to download the raw(yes I am that obsessed with this anime).

You can tell how the initial adrenaline gradually died down by the steady decrease of mindless fangirl items on the paint chat canvas.

Mind you, Wao watched the episode about 2 hours earlier than me, so for her, the adrenaline already died down a bit by the time we started.

Wao only did a bit of drawing on this one since she wanted to get back to her insanely long write up for the episode.

Wao was doing the write up so this one was all me.

I went to catch a couple more hours of sleep. Wao did this one while I slept.

I woke up and we doodled a bit more. And Wao went to sleep after this.

I bought a set of brushes the other day and has been looking for an excuse to use them for the last few days. Iroha seems like a good excuse.

Episode 13 is such a great episode. Not only are there multiple fangirl worthy moments (which I may actually draw out in the next few days), there are also many very pretty cells of Akizuki looking very angsty. I am sure if you have seen episode 13, you would know why I drew the drenched Akizuki above. Akizuki is so... ^__^

Eh.... okay. Time for a public service announcement: Japanese fanartists greatly appreciate - or rather, would seriously want you to - not go around downloading, using or copying other people's fanart/text/ideas for use in sigs/banners/layout etc, without their permission [unless they say it's OK to just take as you like, such as on this site]...

The author of that site specifically asked me to mention this here which shows you the level to which it bothers Japanese fanartists, so - don't do it, unless you ask! (For example I've noticed ricca's fanart used blatantly in sigs on the n*rutoforums) >_<

Yes, you may say it's de facto public domain, and there's lots of arguments you can make about it (keep in mind that there's a reason why I 'release' all my artwork to everybody); but if the artist doesn't want it, please try to respect his/her wishes... It's plain net manners in Japanese circles. If you won't respect their manners - don't expect to be welcomed in their community. That's the way things work. (...I found out the hard way.)

Furthermore, some fanartists will ban IP ranges if they notice that sort of thing going on, and that becomes a real trouble for other fans who haven't done anything wrong.

Yes, I know, I sound hypocritical because our site uses official copyrighted pictures that we didn't make and didn't ask to use or stuff. But well, I see those images as separate because they're things you'll *never* get the permission to use legally anyway - fanart, on the other hand, is a different thing.

So yes, please... have some consideration. Ok? Ok. I wouldn't want to nag about it but I was asked to so... Sorry to dampen a funny page with a serious thing like this.

Most obviously Akizuki and Kakunojou's heads are way too big for their eerily short bodies. :D;;; Not to mention Akizuki's hair looks wrong, his hand is screwed up, his shoulders are stiff, his arms are too short... etc. I shall not look at this doodle ever again.

(20th Dec 06) Drawn while I was really bored in the control room on the first day of orientation rehearsals. (I drew this on the second day. Evidently I was.. a lot more busy.) Uhm. I actually imagined a scene vaguely like this exactly a month ago when I went for this fieldtrip to the sea.

I'll have you know I'm very hesitant to put it in the "Proper Fanart" section. I haven't even cleaned it up one bit, you know? I want to colour it but... I spend way too much time on Iroha as it is. The holidays are ending. T_T.

Anyway, Akizuki's feet look really bad; they look like rabbit's feet. His hand is very wrong. Also, the collars of his coat look strange. Kakunojou looks too fat, her hand is wonky.

Actually I like the leaves the most.

(25 Dec 06) Doodled this to get myself to sleep. Akizuki's body looks a bit odd, but Kanna has one of those very I-am-hawt-look-at-me poses. Hm.

Clothes were テキトー. The Kakunojou I drew on the bottom left was my imagination of what she'd look like if she really looked "male" enough to fool her customers.

If this was earlier in the holidays, I'd want to touch up and colour Akizuki and Kanna, but now... (苦笑

It's got a lot of screwed up things (mostly the stiffness of the body) but eh.
Don't ask me why he is in that pose and why I screwed up the picture with Pretentious Wapanese (tm) in a Pathetic Attempt at... I dare not call this calligraphy...

I can't colour very well. Part of it is Photoshop's limitations but some of it is definitely my stale technique. Am I doing anything about it? No.

Wow, it's been a long time - a paintchat session on the 19th of December and the last one we had was on the 3rd.. @_@

Today's paintchat session was inspired by episode 11. At the end of the episode, there's this really hilarious bit with these ghostly terracotta soldier giant thingies who invade the troupe's tent and target Kakunojou. Of course, Akizuki dashes in later, brandishing a taimatsu (sort of flame torch) which effectively dispels the ghosts.

Just that in the last part, his taimatsu mysteriously disappears, and he looks kind of 呆けた... which provides a gap for none other than our very own Kakunojou-chan to dash in with her own taimatsu!

...Except that she is very... aggressive with it. Like, even after the ghost is gone she's still viciously slashing it around for a good few seconds. Bad animation? ~~Or is Kakunojou getting overprotective because Akizuki-sama is in danger?~~... You decide.

Enough jabber from me - onto our silly ideas of How Dangerous An Overzealous Kakunojou Can Be. There's more to come in this series, don't worry :) (EDIT: You can see moar of this stuff here) All are read top to bottom, left to right.

First up: Basic. Kakunojou vs. Ghostly Terracotta Giant Soldier Thing (who likes giving rude gestures).

... I have sooooooooo many things I could say about this (including how Akizuki was mistaken for a girl in school uniform by my aunt)...
But I won't.

Although I'll just mention that I didn't refer to the actual designs very much; as such
1. Kanna's frills are improvised
2. Kakunojou's clothes + hairstyle are greatly simplified and I also know thanks to Ori that
3. Akizuki is holding his sword in the wrong hand OTL

I did it in this order, Akizuki -> Kanna -> Soutetsu -> Kakunojou.
A pity Akizuki turned out looking the worst despite him being my favourite character. ;(

Oh, and I kept listening to these two songs when doing the Kanna picture: strangers by Raj Ramayya (Wolf's Rain OST I) and BLACK SHELL by Akino Arai (Sora no Niwa).

To understand the freaking ton of Alternative Versions down here, just understand that Blacker refers to the outlines, and Simple/Simpler refers to the colouring (Simple = No special effects, Simpler = No shadows).
The background has been omitted from all except "Large" versions.

Firstly: I am a liar and a hypocrite. I said I wouldn't bother doing anything with this picture over here (the original doodle) but nooo, I forgot about making a proper template pic and yada yada and spent a day's worth of woman-hours doing this over two days. Waste of time I think.

Secondly: What I originally sketched was Kakunojou waking up grumpily to find Kanna annoyingly stuck there and saying hi.
...However, now it looks like they're (insert your imaginative description here).
Noooooo. It's not canon, it's all wrong and it isn't going to happen any time soon assuming it even will!... They are not kissing or anything! Argh. I don't like this sort of stuff. It's so tasteless and blatant and a case of too much fangirling. Furthermore, while this couple intrigues me I personally still prefer the other one; and anyway I think this is such a doomed pairing. What am I doing drawing this? Is my subconscious telling me someth(略

Thirdly: Doing this reminded me exactly how I have still a loong, long way to go in terms of sk1llz... Yes, I know that her legs look funny, everything looks plasticine-ish, and Kanna looks squashed, etc. etc. This pic is very awkward and amateurish. I could go on about how sucky it is. But I figure if I didn't finish I wasn't going to learn anything.

So there you are. Laugh at it... I am actually very ashamed of this picture, but I figure I could do with some humbling.

(02-03 Dec 06) This er... happened overnight (for my side of the world) and during 2nd November for Ori really. Ah what the heck.

This time we were lucky enough to have the distinguished Henrietta-dono join in as a (hopefully amused) spectator.

She didn't actually draw anything but because she provided the original idea for our doodlings she's definitely part of the whole thing. Whether she likes it or not.

Anyway, Henrietta-dono raised this suggestion to me about making a picture where Kanna, Akizuki and Kakunojou are wearing modern formal winter wear and are all together locking arms and are going for a Christmas sort of thingy. I mentioned this to Ori and she foudn it amusing and we started doodling it on paintchat ~~([laughs] more like she just said, "okay, now we are going to draw this" and tricked me into drawing)~~, as you can see below. This time it was really a combined effort :o

Halfway through Henrietta-dono joined us and the little red mark on the top left hand corner is the one and only mark she left behind. She could only see what we were drawing after she joined but got the picture in general anyway.

(I scribbled Kanna in the corner to make up for it. Nobody laughed at my Akizuki-pretending-to-be-Ryoma joke, though T_T)

Unfortunately, we were already beginning to totally destroy her idea because we were drawing them in 1860s clothes and not modern clothes ~~(Mainly because Wao failed to mention the mordern clothes when she said, "Okay, now we are going to draw "....")~~.

Furthermore, everyone was looking more and more stupid (Akizuki looks dorky...) So we decided to try again...

...and failed most spectacularly >_> (Well, we tried!) There were some transition stages in this where Kanna went from wearing Hard Gay gear to being 全裸 (...naked) to a plain shirt.

Please forgive us ~~(It's all Wao's fault! I swear!)~~ for ruining your idea Henrietta-dono. I think she found it amusing anyway but well...
Maybe I should do a proper version to make up for it although I have no confidence in doing it at all.

Finally, there was this quick doodle.

For those who are not already quite aware of this fact, Henrietta-dono is an ardent fan of Kanna.
Something I can't really say the same of for me and Ori, but nevertheless I think we all felt sorry for him when in episode 9 he got completely omitted out of Kakunojou's thoughts. Sigh.
And he saved her more than once, too! Let's hope he appears in episode 10...

And that was it, but it was a very fun session.

(02 Dec 06) Another thing I did in paintchat while Ori was asleep, except unlike this, it was not meant to stay there long. Just call it the effect of episode 9's MEGA ANGSTZ0RZ + me being emo, yar.

The pretentious Japanese I wrote there is 最後に見たかったのは... 振れたかったのは... which was a huge mistake because it should be 触れたかった and not 振れたかった. Basically due to my wapanese nature I have just made a fool of myself and had Akizuki mutter "At the very end, the person I wanted to see... who I wanted to shake around..." OTL It should be "touch". I fail. 8)

(02 Dec 06) Something I did for Ori on paintchat while she was asleep...

This is based off my discovery that near the Koma Shrine in Hidaka-shi, Saitama-ken (that the Koma in the anime is probably based off - it's credited in the ED, at any rate) ... Has a very beautiful field nearby called Kinchaku-da, tucked among the curves of Komagawa, and in autumn it is full of beautiful higanbana. Go read my brief post on it on animesuki or my long rambling on it at the comments section at Henrietta's blog here.

And yes, I know that higanbana do not look like that at all. They have long stalks, for one thing, and look much more elegant. Pardon my complete lack of references.

For this one Ori asked me to imagine a situation between the two of them at some point in the future. (17 Nov 06 + 22 Nov 06) Originally scribbled on the 17th, I was going through unfinished Iroha fanart and decided to do something with this.

I experimented with this more minimalistic, clean-cut subtle-shading style for the first time and it's come out passable, I suppose. The choice of colours and knowing what type of shadow to give them is important. I think I'm very familiar with that shade of pale yellow so I could give it a good shadow, but the middle part of his dark clothing was not so successful. I think his skin could've been a tad redder, too. For harmony's sake.

Yes, I know this is not his exact outfit. And I was too lazy to draw his sword.

18 Nov 06 - OMG! It's another paintchat! Don't we ever get sick of this? ... Well, not yet. This time I came up with some whacked up idea of fangirls that are so crazy they stole Akizuki's hakama (the pleated lower clothes he wears). Please be assured that neither of us would ever consider ourselves in such a position, that's just too freaking weird. We're just poking fun at some people >_>

Eventually... we were mad enough to attempt making a short manga together out of this. I know I know, it's not all that funny compared to some other stuff out there, but what the heck. Hope you can read our writing...

(15 Nov 06) Eh, whatever. I don't know what I was thinking, but I foolishly decided to try doing this sort of thing on Paintchat of all things. (With noone else around of course). Why the hell should I do that when even normal oekaki is better?

I have no idea... Not only did it turn out like crap, my hand is going to bloody FALL OFF now.

A paintchat session between Ori and wao on 14th Nov 06. Inspired after we saw some hilarious Japanese fans' paintchat logs with Soutetsu pretending to be Ronald McDonald. WTF? WTF indeed. Unfortunately we're not as interesting, but still... It might be silly and self-indulgent but it is sooo fun. Ehe. (wao accidentally left the room during the 2nd picture so it never got 'finished'.)

(P.S. Today's "theme", as you can see, was Kakunojou in western clothing!!)

After this I discovered how to make our own paintchat board (we had been quietly using a Law of Ueki one all this time...) and we decided to test it out despite Ori having to go to sleep soon.

11.20.06 Wao inspired this. She made me giggle like a mad fangirl when she put the image of Akizuki saying, "Let's start a Kampanii!!!" into my head.

Akizuki turned out to look slightly evil in this picture, Wao thinks it's his eyes. I think it's the smirk. He is also too tall but by the time I realized that it was too late since I have already inked the picture. Also, my scanner really sucks. I don't know why but it doesn't have the ability to scan lines propery. They always end up looking very jagged and uneven and that really bothers me because in the original pic in my sketch book, the lines actually look fine.

But still I thought this turned out relatively well. I played with the colour a bit, so there are several versions. The above one is the blue version. The one below is the silhouette version that is surprisingly cool. Here's the picture in its original colour scheme.

(12 Nov 06) After a round of paintchat fun with Ori, I felt an urge to do something oekaki-ish. But I cheated and used Photoshop's layers. Still, I used only the pencil tool ;(

By the way, Kakunojou is laughing with her hand over her eyes. I imagined they were lost in some surreal, bizarre but lonely otherworld with many dusty deserted buildings. They ran all the way there with the umbrella to find shelter because it was raining in sheets, only for the rain to stop as soon as they reached it. So Kakunojou is just laughing at the silliness of it.

I have too much time. (P.S. I can't draw buildings for nuts! Ugh.)

Another oekaki I did at a Japanese fansite - kamiya-san's, to be specific. However, it got deleted from her oekaki BBS because I think I was daft enough to draw it on a BBS which was meant only for her own use. Er, yeah.

I should stop doing that sort of thing already.

To put it simply in this picture I made it... akizuki-seme. LOL. Obviously that is not going to happen in the anime.
